With the off season quickly coming to an end, it’s time to update the friends and followers of what Midwest Nostalgia Pro Stock members have been up to, and what’s to come.
We held a group meeting at Kenosha’s Brat Stop in February where the primary topic of discussion was the 2017 schedule. A lot of great feedback was given by our racers, which resulted in our official schedule release just a few weeks ago.
In many respects the off season is just as busy as the race season. Besides car building and preparation, several race industry trade and indoor car shows take place during these months. Seen at Performance Race Industry show in Indianapolis were Mark Ipsen and his son Bill spreading the Nostalgia Pro Stock word. The Race & Performance Expo in Schaumburg, IL brought Bob & Kelly Dill, exhibiting at their Westside Trailer Sales display. Tyler Shenuk brought his dad Chris along to check out the hardware and visit with friends and fellow racers. Working both shows as part of CompetitionPlus.com’s coverage team was MNPSA photographer Bill Swanson. The Milwaukee World of Wheels took place in February, and the “Doc” Holliday team of Williams & Hannah brought their Arrow to the show floor. Arlee III, Arlee Jr. and Margery Williams and Lamont Hanna were all on hand to visit with show goers, and that quick and beautiful Plymouth earned them 1st Place in the Drag Car category. The month of March brought the World of Wheels to Chicago, and Bob Cattelino had his Iaconio & Allen Monza at the Brushmasters display where the finishing touches were put on this stunning car. Helping out were good friends and MNPSA members Rodney Daniels and Bob Lehore.
Jesse Branham and Crew Chief Danny Ortiz have put the Hillbilly Racing Camaro on a diet. A full fiberglass front clip, polycarbonate windows, and assorted other measures are expected to remove 800 pounds from the high flying car. Peter Sarauer will be driving as business obligations permit. Expect to see Danny behind the wheel when Pete is away.
Several teams have been working on adding more steam under their hoods, including Dan Manesis and Josh Parks.
The boys at Parks Automotive have been extremely busy. Jim Parks’ new car, a 1973 Chevy Vega named the “Red Rat” is ready for pre-season testing. With outstanding attention to detail and striking lettering and graphics by the renowned Jim Brando, the Vega is presently armed with Reher-Morrison Big Block Chevy power. After sorting out the chassis set-up in the coming weeks, an all aluminum BBC will motivate the small Chevy.
Tyler Shenuk had the STP Firebird out for testing at Byron Dragway a few weeks ago, and a successful outing it was. With a best time of 8.80 at 154 MPH, the competition has been put on notice!
The Haapakoski Brothers had numerous updates to the AMXtc underway, including new hood and period correct scoop. Allan also promises a “surprise or two”. We can’t wait!
Besides earning that WoW award, Arlee Williams III’s has been hard at work on the sponsorship front. That hard work paid off with a deal to promote the well known Optima Batteries brand. As the “Doc” Holliday team receives direct support from Optima, they will be promoting this great product at MNPSA races as well as promotional appearances off the track & through social media campaigns. Well done A3 and Team!
While on the theme of sponsors, without ours, the Midwest Nostalgia Pro Stock Association wouldn’t have the ability to perform as we do, and grow as we have. So please support Heiser Automotive Group, Top Notch Vehicles, and The Gobbler Theater.
Last month Midwest Nostalgia Pro Stock Association officially released its 2017 Schedule. We sincerely thank the tracks and fans that support us. And a very sincere thanks to CompetitionPlus.com, CarChix.com and DragRacingOnline.com for publicizing our upcoming season.
Come see the Midwest Nostalgia Pro Stock Association’s at its opening race, the Memorial Day Classics at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI on Saturday and Sunday May 27 and 28. We look forward to seeing you!
